Nostalgia: Nothing this week

My nostalgia link for this week was to have been The Dilber Hole. Rereading it, I find that it no longer seems amusing, but is in fact mostly offensive. So it’s not going in as this week’s nostalgia link.

I’ve had a second look at another old site, The Dysfunctional Familly Circus, and was struck by its weakness. So it’s not going in as this week’s nostalgia link either.

If you want to look at either of these sites, you know how to use Google.

These revisions probably indicate a significant change in my taste.

I’ll see what I can remember for next week.

Nostalgia: The Weekly

The Weekly was a cod-Victoriana website with a weekly update cycle. The people involved have gone on to other things, so take a note of their names and Google, Google, Google.

The site is no longer updated (and hasn’t been for many years), but the front page refreshes randomly from the archive on each visit. This is a very nice touch.

Nostalgia: TV Go Home

Before Charlie Brooker did Screen Burn or Screen Wipe he did TV Go Home.

This is where the character Nathan Barley originated. A compendium of the Nathan Barley listings from TV Go Home can be found (watch out, very very very NSFW) here. Brooker hasn’t quite hit his stride, but it gives an inkling of his powers.

Unexpected: The phrase “equally vile companion” is going to sing in my heart for the rest of this marvellous night.

Nostalgia: Geefe

In 1999, Chris Morris wrote a series of articles for the Observer newspaper under the pseudonym Richard Geefe. See the articles here.
