About Me
If you don’t know me, my name is Richard Hagen. I was born in 1962.
I’ve done many things. I’ve written music and plays and I even wrote the screenplay for a short animated film that was nominated for an AFI award! I have an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and I’ve worked as an academic and researcher at several Australian universities. I currently work as a programmer, but I’m beginning to think that this is a mistake.
At the moment I’m learning how to take photographs, and I’m thinking of doing some theatrical improvisation workshops.
My taste ranges very widely. I’m into philosophy and art and music, but (frustratingly for some people) I often slide into scatological regions. Paradoxically, I have a deeply ingrained prejudice against vulgarity. I guess that this is very middle class. I’m into cerebral but not necessarily high-brow things.
I have several close friends who mean the world to me. I have a knack for befriending bright, funny, creative people, and I even know one bona fide genius! A surprising proportion of the people I know are very musical.
I am going out with a wonderful woman who is Something in the City.
Here is a photo of me taken in September 2009.

Self-portrait
It’s particularly flattering. I like my eyes in this shot and I’m wondering if they look this good in real life. (The bumps over my left eyebrow have been downgraded from suspected melanomas to one of those things.)
I try to make something every day, even if it’s just a blog post, a photo or a nice turn of phrase.
